HAPPYLAND KID RELIVES MEMORIES AT CAROUSEL
A week ago, the Vancouver Sun highlighted 88-year-old Dorothy Burnett, who got to live in Happyland (today's PNE Playland) when she was a child. Her father was the superintendent of rides, a child's fantasy setting. Turns out Don Wrigley has been in contact with her for many years, and she was coming into town as a guest of the PNE during their centennial event. With Dianne McLeod's assistance, Don today brought Dorothy and her family and friends back to the carousel she once rode as a child. You could see the memories flooding back. Thanks to Dianne, a Burnaby Now reporter was present to record the event.
Dorothy has recently written "Shoot the Chutes", a book of her memories of those glorious childhood years lived in the shadow of the Giant Dipper. She has donated an autographed copy to the BVM.
The photo shows Dorothy at centre, with her daughter Beverly at right. Hanger-on Dianne is at left.
